“It just seemed as though Seth Thomas was Thomaston.”

One day in 1983, the multinational conglomerate corporation Talley Industries unexpectedly announced that it was closing the 168-year-old Seth Thomas Clock Company in Thomaston.

"We were working and they just called a meeting.  One of the executives from Talley Industries was there.  He just said they were closing Seth Thomas down and moving to Georgia.  Just everybody felt just terrible.  It was a shock."

     - Mary Tycenski, Seth Thomas employee

"I figured Seth Thomas really belongs to Thomaston; that's where it originated."

    - Francis Kane, retired Seth Thomas employee
